Wear what you love

Photography: Harley Goul

Wearing what you love is a blissful combination of self- expression embodied with whatever kind of sass you want to deliver. It can be a full scream, a whisper or anything inbetween. What matters is that the choice is done on terms that empower you to be your best self. I've fallen prey to wearing styles that I love that didn't look so hot on me. I look back at these photos and all that jumps out is "what the hell was I thinking?" I've learned to merge the knowledge of what works on my body with styles that I love. Finding those parts of your body that you want to celebrate will reward you with a sense of freedom to choose how you show up. You feeling and being comfortable in your skin is your journey. The goal isn’t to be a replica of what you see. It’s acknowledging that today and tomorrow you will choose YOU and that’s a beautiful thing.

Denim Power with Anthropologie

Koolaid happy on the Boise Greenbelt. All images by the talented Karen of Karen E Photography

Cruising along the Boise Greenbelt is one of my favorite parts about living in beautiful Boise, Idaho. We have a ease in our style and denim is a huge part of that effortless wear. I'm a denim lover! Deep, infatuated, serious relationship kind of love :) A great pair of denim hugs your curves in all the right places. It let's you strut your goodness without breaking your stride. It can effortlessly navigate between your ankle boots, those slay me heels and yes, your laid back sneaks! These beauts I'm rocking are the stunner ankle step fray high rise by Mother denim from Anthropologie. I'm always on the hunt for a new style that has a little extra something special that makes them stand out from the denim noise. The frayed step hem detail and the faded black had me at hello! The high waisted keeps everything tucked away neatly( YASS!) with a dose of old school chic. Loving on these beauts or any of the denim styles you see at Anthropologie use code ID20 for $20 off your next jean purchase! YES, I'm doing the happy denim dance with you.

Currently Dating: Embroidery

Film captured by the talented Jessica of J.Lee Photos at Griffith Observatory in LA

Embroidered pieces have a way of either slaying me with happy twirling thoughts or making me want to sit in a rocking chair and knit. Since I'm a twirler, I look for styles that have a playful simplicity. This little number is from Zara. Simple, easy to wear and affordable. I bought it because I loved it. If there's a trend that you want to try, I say slip on a style that takes on the trend in a "I can wear it effortlessly kind of way."  If you find yourself needing a "how to guide" on rocking it, just skip it babes! Ain't nobody got time for that :)

Trends are a great way to incorporate a little extra fun and play into your wardrobe. It shouldn't be stressful after-all it's just clothes. As I've said before, date the trends and marry the classics. Have a great Thursday my peeps and I'll see you next week. MUAH!

Fashion + Flowers

This journey started with an idea. The opportunity to share that idea came along in the most spectacular way. It was fueled by the photography genius of Ben and Joella Photography, the incredible floral designs of Flowers At Will and the flawless makeup by the amazing Blush by Jamie Rose. I wanted the fabrics to sync with the landscape and the flowers to have their own volume. I'm humbled and honored to have been apart of this experience and blessed to see our work published in the beautiful and purpose driven Belong Magazine. I'm learning that our strengths are built from the inside out. It's fed by those we let in. It's then shared because we are all worthy, capable and loved.

Joella's written words were published in Belong and spoke to the heart of what we wanted to create and why. I've shared those words below along with some of the photos from the photoshoot. Thank you for all of your love, support and encouragement.

"We are all artists, entrepreneurs, and creators. Our lives have taken us around the country and around the world but now we all call Boise our home. And rather than dream of moving away, we’re are all devoted to building a community of artists right here. So often our work is client based — we all create within the parameters set by those we are serving. Which is what made this project so refreshing and uplifting. It was a collaborative vision designed to bring out the inner creative in all of us. We wanted people to look at these photos and feel transported. To a place that is a little more whimsical and a little more unexpected than daily life. The flower stems were all individually encased in a water capsule to keep them fresh in the desert heat. The flowers were then attached to a corseted top with a zip closure in the back. And it was this idea — a piece of clothing made entirely from florals — that was the foundation of the entire concept. The perforated orchid gloves and lilac clutch were the singular vision of Will Heatter, founder of Flowers at Will. The soft, draping fabrics and blush palette were curated by stylist Laura Tully. And the location, with the rolling sand hills and minimal landscape, were chosen by Ben and Joella to provide scale to the images without competing with the fantastical floral elements. From a photography perspective, the images needed to be the perfect blend of simple and artistic. Medium format film allowed the strong colors of the florals to stand out without washing out the pale sand. And by shooting two images on the same piece of film, there are the double exposure images that feature a silhouette filled with the flowers. Oftentimes, the art of creating needs far less than we think. Instead of focusing on all the things that need to be in place first — I need to live somewhere else, I need more connections, I need more time — focus on just starting. Don’t wait for everything to fall into place, just commit and start small. Work with people who’s vision makes you come alive. Follow your passion. The things you find easy aren’t easy to everyone. They’re your calling. And you just might surprise yourself. And hopefully you surprise a few other people along the way too."  Joella Howard

Hello, from Laura

I've settled in for the evening and I'm so excited to sit down and write to you. It's been a busy few weeks and I'm reminding myself to pause and catch a breath. Writing to you is certainly a big part of that "breathing space". Our journey together has been filled with so many teachable moments. Where I am is not isolated from where you are. The next few months, Mama will be bringing you more style goodness that celebrates Spring (can I get a hallelujah on that please), tips to simplifying your wardrobe and celebrating changes that come into our lives. We are growing together and I must say it's quite lovely.

I truly appreciate all of your kind and supportive messages. It means so much to hear your encouragement and I love seeing your input on style ideas you want me to share ( more please). I'm hear to support you! ( Insert major squeeze right here) We create magic when we climb together. Welcome, to the land of "be yourself". I'm thrilled you've joined.

My Mental Methods of Embracing Imperfection

"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."   E.E Cummings

Growing up I remember trying to tame my limbs. My long lanky arms and legs had a mind of their own. I felt as if I was always mentally chasing to catch up to the length they were becoming. The physical attributes of being a praying mantis of sorts, also affected what I thought I should be, in order to handle what my body was trying to become. My bold personality became a bit more timid and I found myself in my teen years trying not to be noticed. It wasn't until much later on in my mid 20's, where I started to get in "good" with who I was trying to become.

It's so strange to think of that girl then and the women I am now.

All photos taken by my adorable and talented stepdaughter Maddie :)

I'm extending gratefulness to that awkwardly uncertain girl. I was able to experience some real life lessons that allowed me to stay true to what my parents taught me and some, well, they were learned the hard way. That's the beauty of hindsight, the ability of have this reflective quality on how we see things. As a stepmom to a vibrant and precocious 11 year old daughter, I am even more keenly aware of how we, as a family, encourage and foster her individuality. I wasn't faced with the onslaught of tech devices that allowed me to stray from reality with a swipe or a tap. It's important that I remind, not just myself, but her as well, where true value lies.

The less you try to fit in, the better you fit with yourself.

We can be our worst critics at time. The comparison game can stifle what you are trying to create. So I've found it helpful to operate on "just be who you are" mode and the true, honest, genuine people who want to be in your life or connect with you, will happen. The pretend game will catch up to you very fast, not to mention, acting like someone else is  f-bomb exhausting. It's a process and I promise you, clarity happens. You will gain friends, some friendships will become even stronger and at times, you will have to say goodbye to people who were once in your life. It's all part of the process. So show up, just as you are.

Social media is not "real life" but you can generate "real connections" from it

Our immediate connection to what others are doing on Fb, IG and all the other social avenues out there can make us feel, well, less connected with our own lives. When you feel this way, revisit my "just be who you are" mode :) I found it best to stick to the best of what social media is intended for. It has the power to fuel positive change, make waves in how we view our world and generate genuine connections. You can meet really amazing, talented and authentic people. Your tribe can extend beyond where you are. So cool, right?! We can develop relationships that before, weren't as easy to foster.

awkwardness, welcomed.

Flaws can give you wings

Recognizing the imperfect in ourselves can be the catalyst for compassion. Not just towards ourselves but to others as well. Compassion allows me to pause on quick judgements that can easily taint what we are trying to develop. Which are relationships built on integrity, love and anchored with moral grit.

Influence, kindness

I've learned the most from people who were different from me. That's the cool factor of diversity. You get to pick up bits and pieces of knowledge from those who's experiences have taught them something that differs from yours. To me, that's worth sharing. Our opinions might differ and this is a good thing. We cannot all think the same way. The underlying current of these real-life conversations should come from a place of respect. It's recognizing our ability to influence these vibrant discussions, through kindness. The things that challenges us, at times can be the most difficult. The growth and progress from it, is *so* worth it!

My Style Game For Making Winter My BFF

Winter bliss with Karen from Karen E Photos

There's nothing cute about being cold. Shivering as you power walk your way to your destination...f-bombing along the way as the chill factor expresses itself all over your body. Brrrrrr!!!! Winter is here babes  and he's going to try and have his way with you by willing you to flannel and smartwool everything. So let's try to keep it together and not let old man winter steal our style thunder.  So I've implemented a few key staples that allows me to navigate these frigid temperatures, snow, ice, sleet...whatever winter wants to throw my way. Are you ready to get cozy and maintain your cuteness? Snag these.

Real winter means a real coat. Yes, it can look great and keep you warm because we no longer want to experience the f-bomb walk to our destination anymore right....can I get an amen?! Wool is my friend or a friendly puffer. The one I'm rocking is an oldie but goodie from JCrew. There's a few yummy styles that are a must like this and this and you can't beat the price. Oh hey warm and stylish friend.

Cover those digits! Gloves are making their chic debut and keeping their purpose intact. That's right, your hands won't freeze. I found these beauts at Banana Republic and they have that cool smartphone sensitive fabric that allows me to tap, swipe and dial away. No frozen digits here.

Layer like a MOFO. If this sounds familiar it's because it's part of my style sermon ( preaching here). Layering is your friend. Today I've donned a fitted turtleneck under this adorable reindeer wool v-neck sweater. It does two things: it gives me the option of removing a layer if needed and I really can't handle wool (well some wool) directly on my skin so this way I can stay warm and not feel like my skin is about to burst into flames.

These boots are made for snow. Yes I will slip on my full of flavor ankle boots and trot along my merry way until I hit an ice patch that teaches me a lesson. Ouch!! Those lessons I don't want to repeat. Of course we can rock our booties, boots and other goodness in winter but when there's 4 inches of snow on the ground...let's keep it real here folks. We're friends. How cute are these Sperry Topsiders tho?!! Cozy, practical, stylish and I can skip in the snow if I wanted to. Seriously watch me skip.

Are we warm and cozy? I hope so. Thank you so much for all your love and support, it fuels me! As we head into 2017 I'll make certain to bring more of the goodness for you filled with love, purpose and a whopping dose of style. Happy New Year my peeps!!

My Morning Date with Westward Coffee

Coffee bliss with the talented/ ma babes Karen Krum of Karen E Photo ( all images)

It's early and it's not hard to tell what's on your mind once the alarm starts chirping ( do people still use alarms). My alarm is my hubby, he's a rooster. Seriously he wakes up at the same time, everyday, no matter what. Anyways, luckily it's the weekend and you can snooze once or twice before you dive into your weekend happenings. I shower and throw on some major comfy wear, laced with some style of course ( more on this outfit situation later). This weekend involved a serious coffee date with one of my babes.  We chat, eat bready things covered in sweet berry like concoctions and we sip away on delicious coffee. Coffee that makes your eyes smile at the sight  and smell of it. Coffee that requires a moment of silence as you cradle the cup in your hands and take that first sip....ya I know! It's java foreplay...get a room!! ;)  I'm sitting pretty in such a place. It's called Westward Coffee and Supply and it's the creation of mother and daughter Jessye White and Nicole Powell.

Located on Main street in downtown Boise, these babes decided to bring a fresh take to coffee lovers in Boise, Idaho. They're doing so by taking what they call their "pocket size" shop and building something that goes beyond your morning latte.

What made you decide to open a coffee shop?

Nicole: "My mom and I wanted to open a family business in Boise and had both worked in coffee. I wanted to get away from "making it" ie: big city big job big commute etc. and reconnect with the things that make me happy--people, conversations, and face to face interactions."

What does Westward bring to coffee lovers?

Nicole: "We have a different vibe than most coffee places. We are more traditional in our menu and do everything with great specificity--every cup of coffee is ground and brewed to order.  But mostly, we really know the people who frequent our shop and we strive to get to k ow the new ones. For us it's not about having the most nuanced palette or creating an environment that is complicated or intimidating, it's simply about making damn fine coffee and connecting with people in a genuine way. We like coffee and we like people so it's a natural fit.

Your space has a beautiful calm to it... tell me a little about the design concept?

Nicole: "Our space is simple and efficient partly because it is so small! We wanted something minimal because we like the idea of the never ending movement of life through the space.  The base palette is whites and ashy blonde woods because they create a perfect background for this concept. It is also reflective of what we love about Idaho. The wide open spaces, the miles of empty roads, the quiet after a snow. It's a peaceful place and we want that to show! We also have amazing photography from Rick Kuttler of our favorite places in the west."

Where does Westward fit amongst the growing trend of great coffee spots in Boise?

Nicole: "Westward is the kind of shop I fell in love with living in bigger cities like SanFrancisco and Portland. It's small, intimate and well curated. We also carry and represent Idaho roasters. We carry maps (Hailey) Doma (Coeur d'alene) and AfroPhil (boise) We are not trying to take over as a massive chain or sacrifice quality for the bottom line. We are family owned and operated and happy about that. I think we are just trying to create a nice, approachable, third wave shop where everyone is welcome to experience amazing Idaho roasters."

What's your beverage of choice?

Nicole: "A nice hot pour over!"

Nicole: "We believe that living local builds stronger communities and fosters relationships between the humans that live in them. Come in and have a cup before your next adventure or stay awhile and enjoy the atmosphere."

Don't mind if I do. There's a closeness that happens as you sit down in this modern, bright and welcoming space. It could be Nicole's charming wit or the pour-over magic she's about to deliver. I have a feeling it's both and so much more.

So now that you have your perfect latte in hand ( lucky you), lets chime in on the outfit situation. My obsession with style comes from a desperate need to be comfortable, like all the time. The audacity of me!! Merging both, especially when I style my clients is an exclamation that looking great can literally make you feel REAL good. I mean if that's not winning I don't know what is. So I work to create a fun balance with dressy and casual wear by mixing them together most of the time. No style stays in it's lane. We ALL play together. Sneakers with your lady like jacket, why the heck not?! :)

This darling sweatshirt is from JCrew and it has velvet dots. That's right, velvet!! It's cozy, dress me up or down and yes, comfy. Sweatshirts are no longer ONLY privy to being stowed in your back drawer to be removed for Netflix-athon. They can be front, center and style ready.

If you're heading to Westward shoot me a message...there's always room for good company and great coffee :)

Unicorns Wear Stripes

When I was 12 years old I thought that anything and everything was possible. After-all, I had just left my tiny world on the island of Jamaica and was now living in The United States of America. CRAZY!! As another new year slips it's way towards us I'm feeling a bit nostalgic about 2016 and all that its meant to me. I think the biggest take away was understanding more about what I think I'm capable of doing and reviving that 12 year old "I can" mindset. Adult life is so strange how it shifts the "I can do anything" ( I call this my unicorn) to "just do something". Your mind gets blown a bit when you stop making excuses and start failing at shit. Ya, that's what happens when you're all up in the "doing" part of stuff.  You mess up, learn, make progress, try harder and challenge yourself to be better. Not perfect because you and I know that exist only on IG ( those filters tho ;)

stripe sweater: JCrew   Denim: Levi    boots: Piece Unique

So I've battled with my unicorn...we believed at one time right?! Seriously, I can't be the only one. Well whatever your "unicorn" was, it was cool, you loved it and then one day it just vanished. My Mom would chime in right now and say "it call real life baby" in her very heavy Jamaican accent ( filled with Mama truth). Yes, real life chimes in but that doesn't have to be a dirty phrase. That's what's great about still believing as an adult in the "impossible", your "unicorn". You have all this "grown up" perspective to "real talk" your way through the logistics of your dream and the unicorn passion to rally your ass to go after it harder and make your purpose happen.

So as we embark on another year, I encourage you to unleash your "unicorn" and rally that passion you crave. Better yet, why not start the process right now, where you are.  I've got your back.

Cozy Sweater Goals

All photos by the darling, sweet and talented Toni of sydneystudiosandco

If you're anything like me, the start of the dropped temperatures, has me dreaming of cozying up in the best way. That usually includes busting out my old favorites in the sweater arena and finding those new ones that'll keep Mama going warmly and stylishly. I'm what you called chill factor challenged, which means, I don't like being cold, not one bit.  I think of the many many times I ask my hubby to turn the heat up ( because I'm incapable of doing it myself ;)  or making sure I have a good cardigan, jacket,  something to throw over myself, just in case.  So here's a few of my favorite sweater styles to tackle old man winter.

This cozy number and myself was featured in the launch of My Style Boise winter lookbook. There's nothing I love more than sharing the goodness with you guys and this fabulous duo, Marissa and Toni,  are creating a wonderful platform to do just that! Click here to view the first style guide that shows all the details on this look, the other lovelies featured and also our local shops for getting these styles. Can we say hello outfits?!!

This Vince, black cashmere sweater pairs well with just about anything and the funnel neck adds a fun modern edge. It's cozy, chic and will be my "go to" this Fall/Winter. The denim skirt was such a sweet find. You just can't go wrong with classic denim. This particular style is a bit shorter but packed with a whole dose of class because it's not too fitted. I love finding styles that do double duty. I can wear it Spring, Summer and Fall, just add a cool legging or tights and the cuteness continues! I found both of these beauts at Fancy Pants in downtown Boise.

Want more of what I'm loving on in the sweater world?? There's a lot but right now click here and here to check out two of the sweater styles on my radar. The first at H & M and this playful one at Topshop. Did I mention they're way under a $100, yes please! Let me know if you snag any of the styles shown. Stay warm my friends!

My Journey Through the Land of "Be Yourself"

"the less you try to fit in, the better you fit with yourself" lt

This day of giving thanks marks the 1 year anniversary since the launch of my blog and personal styling company, Laura Tully, LLC. It has been an incredible year filled with fantastic, challenging, self-checking, heart filled, blissful and teachable moments. I wanted to send each and every one of you a dinosaur size THANK YOU from the bottom of my ankle boots to the tippy top of my curly poof. The journey of figuring out what purpose I can serve is never-ending but became more clear once I stopped allowing my fears to get in the way.  It was realizing that I could show up, just as I am, right now and begin. This momentum became fueled by an incredible group of women, friends and my hubby who supported, listened and allowed me to let go and dive in. We are given many gifts in this world and I've witnessed the magic that unfolds when we empower each other.

This blog has become an instrument not just to celebrate the goodness of rocking a fabulous outfit but also to package that with becoming our best selves. It's a journey we are all taking. Along the way, the lessons that brought value are those that I share with you. Being yourself becomes more than just celebrating all that you are, flaws and all. It also creates tentacles to see others as they are. As I began meeting more and more amazing women, my mission, purpose and drive became more clear. I wanted each and every woman that I meet and style to know that she is capable, deliberately strong and can OWN what she brings and puts out into this world. The outfit becomes this tiny catalyst that engages all that she can create and with that confidence, she can take flight.

Your responses, comments and yummy hugs, makes my freaking day! Thank you for showing up and giving me LOVE! I will keep the goodness coming because mama will always show up for you. Enjoy the quality time with your peeps and save room for desert. If your rocking some high waisted denim like I am, everything will be cool my friends ;)

Wardrobe Time Saver: The Classic White Shirt

When you're rushing to get out the door, wardrobe staples will be your hallelujah "wear this" saver! Classic, timeless, easy and it looks good on you, yep that's what great wardrobe staples provide. That's pretty much what I look for when it comes to creating a cohesive wardrobe. On days when I can't even think about upping the cuteness, classics like this white shirt, swoop in, saving my outfit and sanity. The tuxedo style of this shirt adds a polished look to a great basic. Time savers like this allows me to get dress fast and have a look that still makes me feel good. That's the whole point right, you gotta feel good in it. I finished the look with some distressed skinny jeans ( you can easily go with classic dark wash denim) and a few fun bracelets. If You Want Happy Thoughts...Wear This

jacket: old navy    skirt: JCrew

Yep, we've all had those mornings where you've woken up and someone has splashed a downer on your happy.  It happens to the best of us. So I grab my tea and inspect my closet to see what outfit remedy will boost my mood. For me a playful print can boost even the yuckiest mood. Your thoughts matters and what you do with those thoughts matter. So, I shut it down before it takes a hold of my "mama's got things to do, outfits to create and closets to make happy" day.  I love a bold print but it can be whatever speaks to you: Polka dots, floral, stripes, watercolor, tribal. Seriously, I want you to try this. Putting on an outfit that makes you feel great can be a game changer on your mood. This is why I love my job as a personal stylist. Style can be this tiny catalyst that allows you and all your awesomeness to be fully engaged.  So, if it makes you happy, I want you to wear it :)

The 2 Styles I Want In Your Closet Now

Let's raise the roof to great staples. Those pieces that make you and your outfits so happy because they stand the test of time and work their little butts off in so many ways when it comes to outfit bliss. I'm always searching for those big and small "it" pieces to add into my wardrobe that helps to create a "wow" look with ease. My list is always evolving and that's just part of the magical fun of fashion. Babe, it's your style prerogative and you can do what you want!! So let's hop into my top 2 faves for your closet...hug me later :)

denim jacket: Thomas vintage   Dress: JCrew   Shoes: Loeffler Randall

Denim Jacket: oh let me just have a moment for the many ways a denim jacket easily transforms so many looks. It's the perfect layering piece: it can easily dress down a look or add a bit of edge to a dressy outfit. It's affordable, classic and comes in a variety of styles for every shape. Win and win!! Try on a few. I tend to go for styles that are a bit looser and have a worn vintage wash with simple stitching ( like the style I'm wearing).

I paired this cool vintage denim jacket with this darling dress from JCrew. The jacket is oversized and adds a boyish charm to this very sweet dress.

Cool kicks: I'm all about finding that awesome shoe that makes you twirl with glee at the sight of them. These oxfords are just that! Seriously, I'm twirling right now!! Whether your style is simple or edgy, adding in a dose of play to your wardrobe makes the "getting dressed" process way more fun!! Come on! Who says no to more fun?!! Your "wow" can be whatever you want:  fabulous metallic oxfords like these beauts, sneakers in a great print or a kitten heel that makes you so happy to be a woman. They are worth the joy, so get them. These shoes can be worn with jeans, a dress, skirt, shorts...seriously any look and it brings a unique take to you. After all, isn't that what style is about?? We're bringing the personal back into styling.

I know my journey of sharing and loving what I do wouldn't be this happy style party if it wasn't for you. THANK YOU for your uber sweet messages and for dealing with my mushy responses....HUGGING YOU!!!! Let the outfits continue!  :)

5 Things That Fuels My Happy

I've tried to generate blog post that I can pre-plan and it never works. I am one of those people that has to be in the moment. I get the chance to speak with you from a space that I know is genuine and not just for the sake of typing a few words. The last few months have been busy and full of style loving mayhem and I've been asked how do I keep my light, happy go get it self charged.  For me, I've realized how important it is to FIND MY DOSE OF HAPPY IN EVERY LITTLE NOOK AND CRANNY THAT I ENCOUNTER. Don't get me wrong, life gets real, ugh...so real at times and you feel out of sorts but babes I tell you, when you look at things from the standpoint of what I am grateful for in this moment. Holy chipotle, it's a game changer.

Early morning bare faced and soul at The Society Hotel in Portland

Launching my own personal styling business came from a place of fear, desperate love of all things fashionable but most of all, having the opportunity to meet and style some of the most incredible humans. What that means to me is I AM THANKFUL FOR EVERY PERSON THAT COMES INTO MY LIFE, NO MATTER WHAT. I know it seems crazy because you're probably saying that there has been a few bad eggs that you wished you never encountered. What I take from that is a lesson. No matter the circumstance, you are going to be taught something, will give something and it is not a worthless moment.

PERFECTION ISN'T REAL BUT EFFORT IS. The comparison game can leave you feeling defeated. What I've learned and continue to learn is the more I focus on how can I be helpful today instead of who can help me today, the better I feel. My efforts to try, always isn't about how perfect I can make things but more about, am I doing all that I can right now. It grants me the permission to make mistakes, learn from them and simply try again and again.

FIND YOUR GOOD EGGS AND LOVE ON THEM HARD! I've had the opportunity to have so many people come in and out of my life with a purpose. Its made me appreciate the ones that fuel my happy by being honest, caring and never allowing me to doubt who I am.  They give me love and that awesome thread of connection. Show up for your good eggs and love on them all the time.

NOW MATTERS MORE. I try to soak up what is happening right now in this moment. Yes tomorrow is relevant and goals are drivers for your tomorrow. However, I try not to lose focus on the present. There can be so many distractions ( so many) that pulls you away from getting all that you can from your now moments that it can be easy to miss out on those small delights. My stepdaughter Maddie ( the cutest human ever), has told me not to be on my phone while she's talking to me...say what?!! It was a huge moment for me and for us. I give her my full attention and get to hear those little and big things that are important to her. Things I could easily miss if I wasn't fully present.

One of my amazing humans introduced me to Brené Brown.  She is an American scholar, author, and public speaker. Listening to her was an illuminating experience for me and whenever I find something that is awesome and teaches me, I must share it with you. This is one of my favorite quotes from her:

"Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen"  Brené Brown

I hope it brings to you your own sense of purpose in this fantastic journey called life.

Favorites: sweet finds under $50

I'm always on the hunt for a sweet find. You know that style that makes you want to twirl because it's full of sugar and spice and everything oh so wonderful about being a girl!! I'm a fan of all things that celebrate the joys of being a woman and clothing is one of my very fun avenues of expressing my lady like attributes. Well enough about my mantra let's get to the yummy center of this grill cheese sandwich shall we. Now I want a grill cheese ;)

This crinkled chiffon blouse is from H+M and it was a screaming deal. Click here to add this little one to your cart. The mint green and tiny floral pattern gave my look a dose of freshness. To give it a modern edge I paired it with my favorite destroyed denim shorts. In the Fall, it will be great with a leather jacket and your most loved skinny jeans.

If you want some more floral loves, I'm also eyeing this one from Asos. I tend to find the print that I love and then look at the price so it's a win win when I can find one at such a great price point. They're out there! My tip is to keep the style simple. You guys know me and my sermon of simple chic. It allows your less expensive buys to stand the test of style and time (well, at least until a dozen or so washes ( fingers crossed ;)

Here's a few of my other sweet finds and all under $50...high five or chest bump here! I love this textured dot top from JCrew in Navy...this is a wear now and later ladies and it's an additional 40% off. WOO!! Check out this fun boho vibe one from  Urban Outfitters. It can be styled for work or play.

If any of these great buys end up in your closet I would love to see how you style them.  Direct message me on Instagram @seelaurastyle or @lauratully.co. Cannot wait!! I've inserted one of my favorite quotes for the week below. Use whenever needed and I'll see you next week!! Insert a really BIG HUG here ;)

Style Game Changer: rocking sneakers

Happy as a clam moment captured by the awesome Karen of karenephoto

Let me take a moment to send a little love letter to sneakers, sneaks, kicks ;)  Dear sneakers, thank you for coming back in style like a champ. My entire wardrobe and feet thank you! :) The resurgence of comfort wear for me is an exclamation that "we"  have entered into this median of style where we can create our own definition of style. Say hello to my converse. These beauties have been with me for years and have allowed extreme comfort  amongst my style game. Peeps, I'm going to preach it all day every day. You can look great and be comfortable.  Sneakers can add a bit of sass and ease to a dress, flirty skirt (or non -flirt;) anything.

sneakers: Converse   Dress: ALC at Fancy Pants

My quick tip is to maintain a sleek profile when wearing a dress or skirt. These converse are lightweight so they don't add bulk to my feet. It allows the dress to still be feminine because it's not trying to compete with a bulky sneaker.  I'm pretty loyal to great classics.  Brands like Converse and Vans are my main go to when it comes to sneaker wear for me. I'm also currently loving on a few of the Superga styles as well for a more edgy wear.

Don't be afraid to mix your looks. This high/ low style is perfect with sneaks.  It can allow you to dress down just about anything without overdoing it.

See you next week my awesome peeps. Fall is around the corner ( I know!! ) and I have some fun, easy and oh so stylish ways to make the transition from Summer painless. MUAH :)

What to wear when it's H O T!

keeping my cool captured by the talented Radion Photography

It's a 100 degrees out and the thought of putting on clothes makes me sweat just thinking about it. I know peeps, I feel what you are going through. I have some quick style tips that will tackle the heat and leave you feeling breezy. When it's this hot I tend to go to the easiest style I can find that makes me feel great without the fuss. A dress is a great way to get this ease and keep your cool in check. Bah bye sweaty armpits :) Dresses are our style angels natural air conditioner and unless you can strut around in your bikini everywhere, it's my go to for temperature control styling.

This darling Theory dress is from Fancy Pants and I snagged it a few weeks ago. It has been in my happy rotation of go to styles for the past few weeks and has worked for pretty much every event I had to run to. The length is just short enough to teeter on sexy but the plaid adds in that classic element that makes it oh so classy.  I recommend finding styles in cotton, linen or silk, cotton blend. I don't recommend all silk. I've experienced the sad facts of serious pitt sweat stains (we're friends right ;) from wearing a "breezy" silk dress that ended up clinging to any sweaty surface of my body...UGH! That is NOT cute y'all. So I'll save you the hassle.

Here's a few of my favorite breezy finds. This pretty little dress from Zara is one of my faves. It's a little short but the loose fit makes it work.  I'm also a fan of this style from The Gap. It's a great price and looks cool with sandals or sneakers. Breezy doesn't get any easier than this!

To finish the look, I paired it with these Madewell sandals that you guys know I've been rocking hard all Summer. They are beyond comfortable and makes any easy style looks more pulled together. It's cheating stylishly ;) My rule is if it's not simple to wear and looks great, then you won't wear it. It's one of the main things I tackle whenever I wardrobe any of my clients or edit and organize a closet. The styles you own should be a genuine reflection of who you are or who you're striving to be. My job is to come in and refine all of that goodness for you so that you can get dressed with confidence.

What are some of your favorite "go to" styles for beating the heat?? Friends share :) Stay hydrated and now very cool with some of the tips I've shared and if you purchase any of the cuteness above...message me so I can see how awesome you look!! Muah!

When cuteness + comfort collides

top: JCrew  denim shorts: Forever 21   Sandals: Madewell

A really awesome thing is happening right now in fashion. You can look fantastic and guess what peeps, be comfortable. Yes!! Let's get it straight, not so comfy you're lounging hard on the sofa. I hear this word from clients all the time and my job is to show them how we can have both. Let's break down this "comfort" situation a bit. I want you to wear styles that look and feel great on your body. You want to feel comfortable and wear styles that won't sacrifice looking great. It's doable and I'll show you how.

How to keep the comfort whilst still engaging the cuteness: The things that I find a bit unusual is what I tend to gravitate towards. This darling bell sleeve top from JCrew was just that. It's fancy but in a cotton t-shirt type of feel, which brings it right back to comfort zone. Look for styles that allow you the versatility to pair with a dressed up or dressed down style. So I can easily rock this top with denim shorts or a fancy skirt. Look for prints and texture: polkadots, stripes, chevron or a modern floral. These types of tops pack a big punch for your closet and makes you look great, effortlessly. Hallelujah! :)

I'm not saying to stay away from trends but I only date trends, not marry them ;) I find the styles I love and my clients go to over and over again are the classics. Simple, chic and you won't regret the purchase 1 year later. That doesn't mean you're entering plainJaneville (I know, it's not a word but it just felt right).  It's best to look for styles that have a classic look like this stripe top but with a little fun, the bell sleeves. Include trends in small doses. So instead of an entire tassel dress, go with a darling tassel top.

Break some rules: Wearing navy and black together was a no no in the fashion rules arena. We can wave goodbye to it and rejoice. I'm wearing a navy and white stripe top with black distressed denim shorts. For me, it's all bout texture and print. The stripe is forgiving and I don't have to worry about matching. So you can pair your navy polkadot shirt or navy stripe with black and go about your fantastic day :)

Don't forget the FUN : Accessorizing is a great way to add a little bit of fun and the unexpected to your style. This darling Rebecca Minkoff backpack does just that. It's practical and brings a dose of happy in this blush color. These sunglasses are from Fetch Eyewear. I saw them in Portland and fell in love with the unique and simple style. Then I learned more about what they represent and fell head over heels in love. I am constantly searching for great style and brands that serve a  bigger purpose with fashion as the medium. 100% of the profits ( YEP, 100%) is donated to animal rescue. This makes my better world momentum uber happy. Click here to learn more about this amazing company, it's mission and drool over the many fabulous eyewear #purchase.

I have to send out a really BIG HUGE GIGANTIC HUG with a squeeze for the kind and sweet messages from my last post, Loving on U.S.A. This is what I meant about feeling like home. It's love, kindness and having each others back. Now go get you some comfy cuteness and share with me your favorite finds.
